King’s Global Health Partnerships

King’s Global Health Partnerships

Background
King’s Global Health Partnerships (KGHP) works with health facilities, academic institutions and governments to strengthen health systems and improve the quality of care in four countries: Somaliland, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. They bring together health, academic and international development expertise from King’s College London, the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and their international partners in order to:

  • Educate, train and support healthcare workers
  • Strengthen healthcare and training institutions
  • Enhance national health policies and systems.

Geographical distance meant that in the past, communications hadn't been prioritised and therefore, any form of an identity wasn't being used consistently across the four partnerships. This had a profound knock-on effect because many of their key stakeholders and investors did not have a clear understanding of who KGHP are or what they do. There was further confusion as to where KGHP sat within the overall King's community, due to a whole host of logos being used across the partnerships.

Brief
To create a distinct and simple visual identity to increase the visibility and influence of King's Global Health Partnerships amongst their key stakeholders. The identity should be easy to use and send a clear, coherent message of who KGHP are and what they do.

We began by hosting an international digital workshop to determine whether to create a 'look and feel' within the King's College London guidelines, or a completely unique standalone visual identity. As a KCL affiliate brand, the outcome was to go for a unique identity but to retain some element of the KCL branding. Another key goal of the workshop was for us to gain further insight and to help define a clear mission and vision, which provided us with a stronger foundation and a direction to begin the design process.

Result
An identity that puts the partnerships at the heart of the organisation. We designed a flexible graphic device derived from the four countries / regions that KGHP currently works in. The outlines of these countries were simplified down to form abstract shapes that can be used in a variety of ways. A bank of easy-to-use templates was created to ensure the new identity would be used consistently, helping to achieve the desired visibility and influence.

It has been a pleasure working with RF Design. They totally got our brief, understood who we are and the many stakeholders in our organisation and turned this into a brand identity that everyone is happy with. They were extremely responsive and flexible through out the process, developing new iterations of the visual identity and branding guidelines to satisfy everyone’s inputs! We are so pleased with the suite of branded templates they created for our teams in the UK and Africa to use. These have made a real difference to our ways of working and professionalising our organisational identity. We’d highly recommend RF Design!
