The Blyth Centre for Music and Visual Arts

Background
The Blyth Centre for Music and Visual Arts is a creative resource for everyone at Imperial College London. The Centre provides access to music and fine art at Imperial through concerts, exhibitions, art classes and music tuition, as well as music practice rooms and an art studio. Their aim is to inspire students and staff and take them out of the everyday, providing a little escape and offering improved wellness and balance.

Brief
The Blyth wanted to increase their visibility around the College and to build awareness of the events, resources and opportunities on offer in order to encourage more people from their internal audiences to engage. They asked us to create a creative, dynamic look and feel that stood out from the typical academic department. They also wanted us to solve the problem of them being referred to in multiple ways (eg Blyth Art and Music Centre, Blyth Arts, The Blyth Centre for Music and Visual Arts) and develop a name that can be used consistently across their materials and by all of their audiences.

Result
The centre is now named ‘The Blyth’ – a confident, simple solution which is guaranteed to stand the test of time. We developed an abstract, vibrant and flexible identity which really stands out around the campuses and in digital communications, while allowing the artists and musicians the freedom to express themselves. In order to keep costs manageable going forward, we supplied a number of templates to the Blyth for use in-house, and provided the necessary support with using them.

“RF Design were the perfect creative partners. From a multi-layered brief, Rachel and her team of designers created a distinctive, eye-catching portfolio. Their support, both during and following the design process, has been much appreciated and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.”
